Mill Farm - May 2010
GET READY TO PLANT NOW....
Specialising in ONLY hardy perennials and shrubs for the garden ........

.... you'll find our perennials are cheaper than any garden centre and most wholesale because we don't 'dress' them to look nice .. but whats the point anyway ?..no matter how beautiful they look in a garden centre, they are all going to look the same by the time they get planted into your garden ..... and remember anything that is forced on or over nurtured is going to shock itself back in your garden before it comes forward again... with all garden plants at this time of year they need to be left alone to condition themselves to their surroundings and within days you'll see them doubling.

about the Nursery  .....

Mill Farm is a true hobby nursery ... not a garden centre ... so don't come with expectations of anything other than sellers of hardy perennials and shrubs ... and with this in mind don't expect pretty plants on the benches ...

perennials are the backbone of every true garden, ... creating magical natural borders throughout the spring, summer and autumn, to die back late in the year,
regenerating over winter, to create bigger and better plants the following year

... ... and because perennials do their best in the garden, their appearance in the pot can be little other described than 'scruffy' - 'pots' to perennials are merely a means of transportation from grower to border and they cry out to be planted up as soon as can be
.... buying from the garden centres will give you a 'pretty' over tended, over fed, induced plant, that may look lovely in the pot, may even be flowering ... but once it hits your under nourished, dried out, barely turned soil will instantly rebel to a lesser self if it doesn't give in all together !
....... whereas our hardy specimens will cry out to be in your garden, and with a good watering will settle in within a few days to only look forward.

Buying a perennial with a flower on may satisfy your curiosity ... but remember .. in most cases once you see it flowering its more than likely reached the end of its season... so won't flower again until next year ... so do try and choose a variety of flowering seasons to get the best from your garden.

Mill Farm endeavour to encourage choice of the easiest to grow, hardiest, everlasting plants at such a low price you can afford to fill the garden with just one visit... imagine 20 full fledged 1 1/2 ltr pots at just £15, from a choice of over 200 varieties, changing throughout the year, all cold grown, wintered outside and ready to plant straight away to instill instant growth for full displays this year !

Visit the nursery and pick your own selection from over 200 varieties.

Simply wander around with a box, a reference book is vailable if you need to know more than that on the label, we offer pencils and labels with which to make notes

if you find our style of traditional nursery doesn't suit your needs then your visit won't be wasted as we are within only three miles of Lumby Garden Centre, Milford Plants and D C Grahams.
